Boat and Watercraft Use
Seneca Sailing Academy students (current year adults and children) and Seneca Yacht Club members now have the opportunity to reserve and use SSA fleet boats (Flying Scots, 420s, Lasers, and Optis) and paddlecraft (kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards (SUPs))!
- Who may participate?
- Current-year SSA students + SYC members + SSA staff & board members
- Current-year SSA students + SYC members + SSA staff & board members
- What is required?
- A successful skills check okayed by one of our instructors. Different craft have different requirements and require independent skills checks.
- Reservation slots:
- Three hour reservation timeslot

- Monitor:
- All rentals must have a monitor (responsible person on land) in case of emergency.
- For 420s, Lasers, and Flying Scots, the monitor must be approved by SSA.
- For paddlecraft, monitors may be a parent, guardian, or friend; they need not be approved by SSA
- When sanctioned sailing activities are already underway (e.g. Wednesday evening dinghy racing or Sunday morning fleet racing), no monitor is required.
- Monitors for lasers, 420s, and Flying Scots are paid $15/hour. When sanctioned events are underway, no fee is required.
- Rentals are provisional until a monitor is available.
- All rentals must have a monitor (responsible person on land) in case of emergency.
- Cost
- Paddlecraft/Laser/420 + monitor fee (if applicable)
- Family: $100 for season – includes paddlecraft/Lasers/420s (no Flying Scot)
- Individual: $50 for season – includes paddlecraft/Lasers/420s (no Flying Scot)
- Flying Scots + monitor fee (if applicable)
- Individual only (no family membership) – $100 season / $30 single use
- Paddlecraft/Laser/420 + monitor fee (if applicable)
