Want to get involved? Want to help? We welcome your participation!

Sailing is fun, a great way to connect with the outdoors. Plus, it’s not only a great way to learn about the environment, but a great way to learn about yourself, too.

SSA believes that everyone can learn to sail and that it provides a focused opportunity for personal growth – in confidence, leadership, and stewardship. Help us as we seek to develop our program to serve our diverse and vibrant community in Geneva and the Finger Lakes! We’ve been doing this now for over 70 years and we think we can do an even better job. There are many ways you can help!

We are in particular need of covered winter storage space for our three Flying Scots. If you’ve got room in a barn or other enclosed space, let us know! senecasailingacademy@gmail.com

SSA is run, organized, and physically operated primarily by the volunteer spirit of its board, but we can always use a helping hand. Opportunities range from little to big and from short to long. We always need help cleaning and setting up boats, doing repairs, helping during camp and lessons, transporting and stowing, and more. If you’d like to donate some time and see how our instructors are making a difference in kids lives or how students benefit from taking on the responsibility of piloting their own boat, let us know – senecasailingacademy@gmail.com

SSA provides a lot of bang for the buck. But, we can always use help with equipment. SSA owns and operates a fleet of boats that includes Optimist Prams, Lasers, 420s and Flying Scots. Maintaining these boats for optimal and safe teaching a full-time and expensive job. So, we’ve got a list of things we could use. Maybe you have some useful parts to donate or maybe you’d like to help us replace one of our aging boats with a newer model you’ve no longer a need for.  Again, let us know! senecasailingacademy@gmail.com

Here are just a few of the kinds of things we need:

    1. Winter barn space for Flying Scots – this would really help us protect these assets for the next few years
    2. Boat Dollies
    3. Boat covers for 420s and Flying Scots
    4. New mainsheets and other running rigging all of our fleet
    5. New sails(!) for all of our fleet

New boats (both our sailboats and our motorized chase boats) help ensure that we can continue bringing this life-long sport to kids and adults for another 70 years. If you’d like to talk about helping us purchase a new version of any of the boats we maintain (with your name proudly as its own), please get in contact. senecasailingacademy@gmail.com

We strive to provide opportunities to all youth. Sometimes tuition is a hurdle and sometimes other requirements, like lack of a good PFD can prevent someone from joining in the fun. Would you like to help make these opportunities real?  senecasailingacademy@gmail.com

SSA has benefited from 70 years association with the Seneca Yacht Club and will continue to do so, however, we are ready to start building an even more ambitious future. We hope to build our own SSA building (on unused SYC land nearby) and create a sailing center, separate from SYC, with modern boat and equipment storage, changing rooms, classroom, and public space, fronting Seneca Lake. This would be a game changer with respect to the kinds of programming we could offer and the ways we could enhance our offerings to the community. Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding way to make a significant impact on this program and our community? We can help you make it so! senecasailingacademy@gmail.com
