Welcome to SSA! We have completed our 75th season (summer 2022) of instilling the love of sailing in kids and adults. Thanks to all who participated; you all helped us teach our students how to sail, but you also helped us cultivate a sense of responsibility that will keep Seneca Lake a place that all can enjoy.
Our Season: Registration is closed for the season. We offered a full summer of sailing instruction and fun. Sailing camp began in late June and featured Adventure Weeks for kids with experience, Opti Weeks for beginning sailors, a Splash, Paddle, and Sail Week in which we worked with community partners to introduce kids in the community to watercraft and water play, and an Advanced Sailor’s Week. We were essentially at capacity the entire summer and hosted over 90 sailors, both kids and adults; it was a very successful season! Check out these galleries for a sense of our summer 2022 season: SSA 2022 Awards Picnic, SSA 2022 Adventure Week Sampler, SSA 2022 Opti Weeks
FIRST SAIL events! SSA offered a series of First Sail events throughout the summer. SSA offered free sailboat rides on Seneca Lake departing from the Finger Lakes Welcome Center. We set up our tent during the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings and brought a wide variety of people and families out on the lake. Most takers had never been on a sailboat; we gave them a chance to hop on and give it a try. Look for these again next season.
Please do contact us (senecasailingacademy@gmail.com) with questions, comments, suggestions, and dreams!
Finally, you can also visit our Donation page to think about how you can help us continue to bring sailing, the outdoors, and a love of this beautiful place together for you and for our community. Thanks for visiting!

Who we are
Sailing is fun! Seneca Sailing Academy (SSA) was formed in 2012 as a non-profit organization focused on community members with access to responsible seamanship skills. Specifically, we promote and provide:
- sailing instruction for youth and adults
- race training
- the exchange of sailing and boating information
- public awareness regarding boating safety
- public awareness regarding the ecology and preservation of Seneca Lake
